From June 16 – 19, 2008, BMC Zhenwei Exhibitions staged the Canton Machine Tool Fair at the China Import and Export Fair (Pazhou) Complex in Guangzhou. The international machine tool exhibition formerly known as GIMT opened the doors to its ninth edition with a new name and a new concept. Focussing on metal cutting and forming machine tools, the Canton Machine Tool Fair provides a communication platform for the manufacturing industries of South China.
On an exhibition area of 6,000 sqm, 275 companies showcased their latest products and technology solutions to a public of 9,800 professional visitors. With manufacturers like GSK, Han’s Laser, and Jinfangyuan CNC Machine Co., Ltd., numerous Chinese market leaders participated in the Canton Machine Tool Fair. Companies such as the Italian FMT Group, the US-based Haas Automation, Inc., Amada from Japan, and the German cutting tools manufacturer Guhring Group represented the international machine tool industry at the fair.
Concurrently to the Canton Machine Tool Fair 2008, the China Autoparts Manufacturing Technology & Innovation Forum was launched. The aim of the forum was to provide Chinese and international machine tool and metal working manufacturers with insights into the global market demands. Mr. Chen Changnian, Director of the Society of Automotive Engineers of China, delivered a speech about automotive technology innovation and development strategies. International industry representatives like Luca Bochese from the Estonian Italian Chamber of Commerce gave presentations about developments and demands of global machine tool markets. The conference attracted 75 technicians and decision makers from international machine tool manufacturers.
Canton Province is the largest manufacturing centre in China and a famous end-user region for the metal working industry. A key aspect of the exhibition concept is the location in a high-tech manufacturing hub – in Guangzhou, the capital of Canton Province. One of the pillar industries of Guangzhou is the automotive industry: With Honda Automobile, Toyota Motor, and Isuzu Bus, three automotive manufacturers established bases in Guangzhou. The city is expected to realise a throughput of more than 1,000,000 cars by 2010. Within Canton Province, the automotive industry and its ancillary industries increased with a growth rate of 33% in 2007.
As supporter of the Canton Machine Tool Fair, Li Yonggang, Representative of the Machinery Sub-Council of the CCPIT (China Council for the Promotion of International Trade), commented: “With Guangzhou as location of the exhibition, the Canton Machine Tool Fair brings a distinctive exhibition profile to the centre of South China’s manufacturing industries. The concentration on metal cutting and metal forming machine tools is unique in South China.”
